GAMBIER,
Ohio—Five poems from recent issues of The Kenyon Review
have been selected for inclusion in The Best American Poetry
2006 anthology. The poems and their authors are: "Sally's
Hair," John Koethe, from the Review's
Fall 2004
issue; "Harvesting the Cows," Ellen Bryant Voigt,
Winter 2005;
"Our
Generation," Carl Dennis, Spring
2005; "My First Mermaid," Debora Greger,
Fall 2005;
and "The Other Woman's Point of View," Liz Rosenberg,
Fall 2005.
The winning poems were selected by Billy Collins, U.S. Poet Laureate
2001-2003, who served as guest editor for the 2006 Best
American Poetry
collection. The series editor is David Lehman.
"We're absolutely thrilled by the number of poems selected
for this edition," says David H. Lynn, editor of The Kenyon
Review. "Seeing five poems published in Best American
Poetry is a great honor for The Kenyon Review and
for our authors—and it's a testament to (KR Poetry
Editor) David Baker's keen aesthetic instincts."
The Best American Poetry 2006 is slated for release by
Scribner in September 2006.
Founded at Kenyon College in 1939 by poet and critic John Crowe Ransom, The
Kenyon Review is currently edited by David Lynn, who is a professor
of English at the college. Many noted writers have published their
early (and later) works in the magazine, among them poet Robert
Lowell and novelist Joyce Carol Oates.
