In Memoriam: Philip Levine

David Lynn

levine-memoriamWe are deeply saddened by the passing of longtime contributor and friend Philip Levine. A working-class boy from Detroit, Levine never forgot his roots. Indeed, the harsh industrial world of his upbringing served as inspiration and source material of his lifetime’s work. Appointed Poet Laureate of the United States in 2011, Levine won many awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, the National Book Award, and the Wallace Stevens Award. He was a generous, funny, unpretentious soul, and we will miss him.
