About the Cover
Our cover design by John Pickard, part of the seventieth anniversary series, features a photograph of Robert Lowell, taken in the spring of 1968 at Kenyon College’s eightieth birthday celebration for Review founding editor John Crowe Ransom.
Lowell (Class of 1940) was among the “illustrious few” (to quote Life magazine) “of the many poets, authors, and editors in [Ransom’s] debt . . . who had journeyed to foregather with Pappy, as they call him, and to take part in a special college convocation.” Among the others was Allen Tate.
Photographic research by Tom Stamp, college historian and keeper of Kenyoniana.
